Ravi has acted as the lead counsel in a number of notable cases such as:

  • Dien Ghin Electronic (S) Pte Ltd v Khek Tai Ting [2011] 3 SLR 227 – This is one of the few patent infringement cases that went to trial in Singapore. It was successfully argued that there was no infringement as the offending act fell outside the scope of the patent. Furthermore, the court also agreed that the patent was invalid on a number of grounds; and

  • Sarika Connoisseur Cafe Pte Ltd v Ferrero SpA [2013] 1 SLR 531 – This was the first case in which it was successfully argued at both the High Court and the Court of Appeal that there was dilution of a famous trade mark. Besides this cause of action, the plaintiff also succeeded in trademark infringement and passing-off.

Ravi has written a book on Singapore trade mark law published by LexisNexis entitled "Trade Marks Act: A Commentary". The book has been cited by the Singapore courts in several cases and is now in its second edition. He is also the author of the Trade Marks chapter of "Halsbury's Laws of Singapore".

Mr Paul Teo has extensive experience in all aspects of IP matters such as enforcement (both civil and criminal enforcement action), High Court and Court of Appeal litigation, domain name recovery actions, drafting, advisory and review of IP-related agreements.

Paul has acted in a number of notable cases. A recent example would be Rovio Entertainment Ltd v Kimanis Food Industries Sdn Bhd [2015] 5 SLR 618. It was successfully argued that two earlier registered trade marks should not be combined into a composite whole for the purposes of determining whether a later mark is confusingly similar to an earlier mark and that the court should compare the two earlier marks against the later mark separately. The plaintiff also succeeded on the argument that there was no copyright infringement and that use as inspiration is not something prohibited by the law of copyright.

He is also a contributor to Atkin's Singapore Court Forms - Trademarks (published by LexisNexis).
